Childhood Dreams that got brutally crushed....

Hi guys! I'm sure some of your are very intrigued by the title of this post, LOL! I'm sure all of you firmly believed something when you were little, only to end up being extremely disappointed. This process of getting some of your perfect dreams crushed and discover the reality is a part of being more mature.

Here are some of my dreams, please feel free to make a list for yourself too!

1. Before I was 6, I've always dreamt to be able to bounce on clouds, just like trampoline. They look so soft and fluffy...just like marshmallows. I was completely crushed when I found out by going on a plane for a family trip, that clouds are just water droplets that are suspended in the air. They are just like fog!!

2. I've always wanted to make this pill that can make you live forever, and I will sell the first pill to Bill Gates for gazillion dollars. That dream was brutally murdered by my 4th grade teacher. I can still remember exactly what she said: "Tao, grow up. This is not a realistic goal! It goes against the human nature." While thinking back on it, it is true. Pills like that will completely destroy the balance in nature! However, back then I was completely stunned. I was heart broken for at least 2 weeks.

3. I've also wanted to be a forensic pathologist. I've always like shows like CSI: Miami, House, etc. even the Chinese ones! I didn't want to be detectives nor lawyers, I wanted to be the hot medical examiner that cuts people open to look for different weird causes of death. That dream was destroyed when I got my first D ever in 1st 9 week grading period in AP Biology in highschool. Of course, other than forensic pathologist, this fact killed off all so called "Asian" majors for me, such as all Pre-Med majors and any science majors.

4. Like every other adolescent girl, I dreamt of being discovered by a modeling scout randomly on the street (or in the mall). Of course, this dream self destructed after knowing that I will never be 5'10" and 100lbs. Still, I wonder frequently what it will feel like to be rich, famous, and gorgeous (Yes, Adrina Lima and Miranda Kerr, I'm talking to you).

How about you guys? What were some of your dreams that didn't come true? I would LOVE to hear some of the stories!

Have a great day everyone!
Tao

LOL you're too funny!! I don't remember really being devastated by anything heart breaking.... I must've been such a naive kid. Haha.

when i was little, i thought beans were baby potatoes. i was devastated to learn that beans were beans and not itty bitty potatoes.

i thought the clouds were cotton balls. i honestly thought that firemen would crawl up their ladders and pick "cotton" from the sky. i found out otherwise...

my parents told me if i didn't pray, this witch would come and eat me up. i found out my parents are full of shit. stinky, smelly ol' shit.

I'm with you on the cloud thing.

When I was still living in Viet Nam, my aunt had already moved to america for several years. She would send me pics of her standing in the snow. She said when she visited, she'd bring some back for me. And when she came, she'd tell me she forgot it on the plane. Sad to say, I was a naive little girl..xD

I wanted to be a tennis player...I took a class in the summer, my dreams were smashed soon after that. I was so sucky haha. There was this prodigy kid that was in my group...I really didn't like him. xP

What a wonderful feel-good post. I remember those childhood dreams as well and I might still cherish some of those.
I love series like CSI and House so much. And yes, I wanted to be 'discovered' like a model when I was 17...

Funny enough I too wanted to be a Forensic Pathologist which was brought on by watching too many shows like CSI, SVU etc aswell =P it jus looked so cool! however this was crushed when I found out in high school that biology wasn't as fun as I thought it would be and totally screwed up my chemistry finals.. however recently I saw this show that shows real life Forensic Pathologists at work (not those tv drama ones) and I have to say in tv dramas they make it seem so much cooler than it really is =o so I'm kind of glad now hehe

Yes your title sorta scared the sh*t out of me. I was hoping it wasn't some sad story you found on the front page of Yahoo.com or something. Hahaha. jk (:

When I was younger I always dreamt about how my future would be when I was older. Before I went to bed I would picture the format of my house, the front yard, EVERYTHING! I swear it put me to sleep at night. lol

That was a really sweet post. I got kind of lucky with my career dreams - from the time I was very young I wanted to be a writer, and it's what I do now through blogging as well as what I do in my career as a journalist. :)

Then again, that dream to work for Martha Stewart Living magazine and spend my days writing about how to turn some yarn and pine cones into a beautiful seasonal wreath is still a fantasy...Or to be a reporter in South America or Eastern Europe for a news magazine. But we all have to start somewhere small, so I can't complain.

Haha the same things happened to me! I soooo wanted to be able to perform surgery and cut buuut I did awful in Biology at UW! =( And I just couldn't take Chemistry any longer.

I crave an extra couple of inches, to enable me to do runway =(. Pity I don't have the bone structure either!

This was a fascinating entry!

I wanted to be a scientist but I failed every single science class I took at least twice. I wanted to be a journalist, but I failed English haha. I wanted to be a pastry chef and I didnt fail culinary school! But I dropped out cause people have no lives and need to grow the hell up. So, I'm still working on that lol.
