I'm Back...

but I lost my camera.

So I'm on the look out for a new camera.

I kinda want a point n' shoot DSLR camera... I know, it's kinda contradictory. I'm not even quite sure that it exists. I just want higher pic quality. After reading blog after blog with gorgeous pics, I've seriously considered switching cameras. I need all your camera savvy people out there to help me out. :)

I have my eyes on the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1. It's kinda pricey though.

I'm left super broke after I got my mom her very first Chanel Jumbo Flap Bag (Caviar w/ gold chain). It's been her dream to own a Chanel bag and she only likes the classic versions. I've been saving for quite a while, and I finally got it before the June price hike. The bag is now $4300 and I got it for $3000 (with tax/shipping) from Nordstrom w/ my discount. :)

Anyways, does anyone have any suggestions on a high quality camera?

Thanks in advance! :)

Aw, you're such a sweet daughter!! Your mom is a lucky woman! :)

As for cameras, I think the GH1 is a great choice if you want good quality pictures but want something smaller than a DSLR. That was one of the cameras I was considering before I got my DSLR. Sony NEX 3 or 5 are other micro 4/3 camera like the GF1 but really small (if you don't count the lens)! Practically smaller than some point & shoots out there, so if your priority is having a small camera, that could be appealing to you. Another alternative is the Canon s95. It's a really great camera that isn't a DSLR but offers great image quality and it's classified as a point and shoot.. an advanced point & shoot rather. It's a great option for people who don't want to fuss with all the manual control options that a DSLR or micro 4/3 camera offers but still want a little more customization and good image quality and it does HD videos as well. :)

Canon S95! It's not so much a dSLR camera, but its image quality is almost comparable to one!

oh the lumix is just love love love. i have a dmc-zs3 myself, for a point and shoot it sure does take quality vids and photos that rival dslr's. it's been what i've been using for my youtube vids and product photo's on my makeup blog. i think the dmc-zs3 [the model i have] is even a tad smaller than what you're salivating for. but man, know i want that gf1, too. hahaha

Hi Tao!
I have been thinking about lumix GF1 for quite a while since a blogger I like takes such amazing photos with it...Anyway,my lemming died a little after I realized that it cost more than a thousand bucks in US (and funny enough the new "better model" GF2 is only around 500 bucks here). If you want a non-dslr DSLR, Panasonic also has a DSC-GH1 which is a medium sized camera you can swap lenses with. I haven't tried that myself so I am not certain about the quality (and for that price, I might as well get an actual newbie level DSLR, for which I can get more lens options).

I have the Canon S95 and I LOVE IT. It has great DSLR features but with a P&S size. I was deciding between the S95 and the Panasonic LX5.

Check this out for a more in-depth review:

You may also want to check back to see when the upgraded models are coming out. These cameras are about a year old so I'm sure something new is coming out soon.

I've got the Sony NEX-3 myself. I love it but you have to manually focus and zoom and I think that'll be difficult to do self-portraits

i have the canon g11. i went through a couple of point and shoot and was disappointed in them. the canon g11 is like a combo of a point and shoot and a dslr. i would say it's midsized and the clarity is awesome.
